GY6 150cc Engine Oil Recommendations

VIEW ALL CHINESE ATV SERVICE MANUALS

We get alot of questions from customers wanting to know what kind of engine oil to use in their Chinese GY6 150cc engine. Read On....

Engine Oil (SAE 10W-40) and summertime temps (SAE 20w-50) and if this engine is ATV or Go Kart driven in winter temps (SAE 10w-30)

Maintenance and Tune-Up Procedure

Our shop uses Valvoline SAE 10W-40 SYNTHETIC oil or another name brand oil.

SYNTHETIC OILS ARE GREAT FOR THIS ENGINE BECAUSE OF NO INTERNAL WET CLUTCH

Checking the Oil

Place Unit on a Flat Surface
Remove the dipstick and wipe off with a clean cloth
Put dipstick in hole WITHOUT screwing it in
Check oil level to see if its between min and max indicators
Add oil as necessary to reach required level
Changing the Oil

Run the Unit for at least 5 minutes or until warm then shut off
Place suitable container for draining oil beneath engine
Container should be capable of holding at least 1 gallon
Remove the engine drain plug, oil filter cap, spring, and oil filter screen.
Drain oil completely
Check condition of O-ring and filter screen for foreign material before installing
Install drain plug and torque to 12 ft. / lbs
Fill with 25 to 31 oz. of API Classification SF-SG (SAE 10W-40) oil
Doublecheck by adding little over 1/2 quart oil first.
Start the engine and check for leaks
Shut off engine and check oil level with dipstick, do NOT screw the dipstick in when making this check.
Add oil if necessary to reach safe level.
